So its been a while since my last post. Ive spent the last month fighting with my computer and finishing up the school term and haven't had much time for anything else. anyway, here at long last is the jogger picture i said i was going to finish up. above you can see the drawing i did which is more streamlined than the first one i posted a while ago. basically what i did was just laid some tracing paper ( i love tracing paper) over the original drawing and just smoothed her out a bit, then i went and made her face a little prettier. i scanned it in and brought to photoshop.
In photoshop i just retraced the lines, tried to make em all clean and pretty, redrew the sweets, and added some shading to the girl.
Finally i added some color and a textured background. I wanted to keep it sort of muted so i knocked the opacity down on all the color, also, for the sake of clarity i threw some text on the candy bar. ...Now she is finally done! and ready to motivate us into getting our butts in shape! or... maybe, this will just make you hungry. whichever way you go, its the way i wanted you to.

This was a little two part project i made for myself. I wanted to make a 50's-60's looking cartoon but i wanted to make my own retro looking pattern and stick it in there, this took a little longer than i thought it would and was kind of a headache, but I like the way it came out. The drawing itself was harder than it needed to be since i really had no idea what i wanted to draw except "cute girl", she went through a few noses and props before i decided on what you see. The blessing and the curse of drawing in Photoshop are the many options the new layer button gives you.

I know you're not suppose to show a work in progress, but, i kinda like seeing things evolve. ...and that's my excuse for posting up this picture. i'm trying to do a bunch of illustrations of cute mundane things, shopping, jogging, cooking, ...that sorta junk. This girl right here looks pretty terrified that all that junk food she had this weekend is going to catch up with her. I would like to stream line this one even more, really just break it down into shapes, then add some color to it. Also, I'm thinking i have to add a lil snack over in that upper left corner. hopefully I'll have it finished and up here with in a week or so.

So this here is my second submission to the Woot shirt derby. The theme this week being robots. I love retro looking robots, the more cumbersome the better I say. I'm actually kinda proud of my brush work on this one, its not easy getting just the right amount of ink onto your brush without just making a giant black streak. be assured this is just the first of many robot drawings that will be shown here.

Bzzzzzzzzz

HEY! looky here! its a fancy, chrome like dragon fly! I drew this a while ago as filler for a pop up book I was doing for a class project but, there ended up not being enough room for it in there. I kind of liked the drawing though so I figs I just post it up here. For the record though I HATE dragon flies. And yes, I hate them cos I fear them, that doesn't make the animosity any less real though.

Since this is my first post here i think its fitting that it should be of my first submission to Woot.com t-shirt derby. A really awesome design competition that woot does every week. They post a theme every Thursday and you have until the following wed to submit it. it was kind of a pain figuring out all the resizing they wanted but that's my own fault for not checking the guidelines before grabbing my brush. The theme this week was holiday travel, or home for the holidays. Something like that. I submitted this on a asphalt gray shirt, apparently I'm the only one who likes the yellow background square. Oh well, you live you learn. Next week, no square of color.
